Balanced Zinc Complex 90 Veg Capsules
- Highly absorbable, synergistic balance of zinc and other key nutrients involved in immune maintenance and skin health. Includes vitamin A and Copper for optimum absorption and utilisation.
- Zinc is found in every cell of the body and is a component in over 200 enzymes. In fact, zinc functions in more enzymatic reactions than any other mineral. The average body contains a total of 1.4 to 2.5 grams of zinc, where it is stored primarily in muscle 65% of the total is highly concentrated in red and white blood cells. Other tissues with high zinc concentrations include bone, skin, kidneys, liver, pancreas, retina, and prostate.

Zinc is involved in virtually every aspect of immunity. Zinc supplementation produced a significant restoration of serum thymulin (a hormone produced by the thymus gland). Typically, as we age the level of thymulin and other immune enhancing thymus hormones decrease. The reduction of these hormones leads to an impaired immune system.
Zinc like vitamin C, also possesses direct antiviral action. This includes antiviral activity against several viruses that cause the common cold. A double blind trial demonstrated lozenge’s containing zinc significantly reduced the average duration of the common cold by seven days.
Zinc possesses antioxidant effects and functions in the antioxidant, superoxide dismutase (SOD). Zinc levels are found reduced in-patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and several studies have used zinc in RA showing a therapeutic effect.
Male Sexual Function
Zinc used in virtually every aspect of male reproduction, including hormone metabolism, sperm formation and sperm motility.
Several double blind studies have shown zinc yields similar results to tetracycline in superficial acne and superior results in deeper acne. Zinc is required for the effective release and utilisation of vitamin A from liver storage. Vitamin A is a highly beneficial nutrient in acne treatment protocols.
Zinc deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies in the elderly and may be a major factor in the development of Alzheimer’s disease. The end result of a zinc deficiency could mean the destruction of nerve cells and the formation of neuro - fibrillary tangles and plaques. The levels of zinc in the brain and cerebrospinal fluid in-patients with Alzheimer’s disease are markedly decreased.
The Role Of Copper
Copper is included because zinc may depress copper levels if an appropriate ratio is not maintained (approx. 10:1 zinc to copper). It has been postulated that a relative or absolute deficiency of copper characterised by a high ratio of zinc to copper results in hypercholesterolemia (elevated cholesterol levels in the blood), myocardial (heart muscle) and arterial damage and increased mortality.
Copper is also involved in the production of SOD alongside zinc. Copper deficiency results in iron deficiency anemia because copper is required in proper iron absorption and utilisation. Copper is also necessary for the activation of an enzyme lysyl oxidase, required for in the crosslinking of collagen and elastin, crucial for healthy skin, hair, bone, blood vessels and joints.
The Role Of Vitamin A
Vitamin A is added to the complex to enhance synergy, thus supporting immune function, visual health, skin health, antioxidant and reproductive aspects.
Skin conditions, such as: acne, eczema, psoriasis, postoperative healing, viral infections, prostate/testicular conditions, bone support – osteoporosis, sense deficiencies, such as hearing, taste and smell, hypoglycaemia, macular degeneration, anorexia, alcoholism, vegetarianism, post-trauma and burns treatment, low stomach acid, pancreatic insufficiency and oral contraceptive use.
May be used with EFAs, Dong Quai and B complex in PMS. Other links include use along with Saw Palmetto and additional antioxidants in prostatic conditions. Zinc, chromium, EFAs, milk thistle and spirulina can maximise benefits in detoxification and enhancing skin health.
