About The Maletsatsi Foundation
Based in Midrand, South Africa, The Maletsatsi Foundation serves to bridge the unfortunate gap that many of our children currently find themselves in, post abandonment, removal or relinquishment. Registered as a Non-Profit Company (NPC), the organisation is focused on the implementation of social upliftment and development projects. In order to achieve this, the foundation requires sustainable funding for staff, consumables and general home improvements on an ongoing basis.
It is estimated that 3 500 babies survive abandonment each year in South Africa and that for every baby found alive, it is estimated that two will die. It is with this background that the Maletsatsi Foundation was established. The Maletsatsi foundation provides a temporary family for children in transitionary spaces. The foundation is primarily a home to abandoned, abused, neglected and other babies in need, essentially a ‘stop over’ home during the finalisation of a child’s permanency either through reunification with the child’s family or through adoption. The Maletsatsi Foundation aims to provide family based care that opposes institutionalisation, is rooted in love and connection, is committed to strong attachments and prioritises the strengthening of first families. Their hope is to see a world where women are sufficiently supported that abandonment is eradicated.
