Black Iron Oxide 50ml

Black iron oxide is a naturally occurring pigment which is commonly used as a colourant in cosmetics, ceramics, paint, ink and cement. Black iron oxide has no known skin toxicity, and is therefore safe for all skin types when used externally.

You can use black iron oxide to colour your homemade soap bars, mascara, eye liner, foundation, eyeshadow, bath bombs, bath salts, tinted lip balm and lip stick. You can also mix black iron oxide with zinc oxide to create shades of grey.

You only need a very small amount of black iron oxide to achive good colour in your products. Start with just a pinch. Always start with far less than you think you will need, and add a little more until you achieve your desired colour strength. Iron oxides are potent pigments.

Iron oxides are available in four colours: red, yellow, brown and black. They may be blended together in various combinations to create different colours, or blended with zinc oxide for lighter tints. The colours produced are earthy muted shades, rather than bright colours.

Black iron oxide is insoluble in water and oil, but it is dispersible in oil.

How to use this ingredient for best results:

• Don't inhale or ingest iron oxides. Wear a mask when handling to prevent inhaling the fine particles. For external use only.
• Disperse in oil with a high speed blender, and stir until the product reaches trace.
• Soap bars: Disperse the iron oxide directly into your soaping oils with a blender, before adding the lye.
• Creams and lotions: Thoroughly blend the iron oxide into your final product after it reaches trace, or after it cools down.
• Balms and salves: Disperse the iron oxide directly into your warm oils with a blender, and once off the heat, continue stirring until the product reaches trace.
