Psyllium Husks increases the bulk in your stool, an effect that helps to cause movement of the intestines. It also works by increasing the amount of water in the stool, making the stool softer and easier to pass. Psyllium, one type of bulk-forming laxative, has also been used along with a proper diet to treat high cholesterol.
For an adult, a dose of psyllium husk is taken once, twice or three times a day.The Husks should be mixed into a full glass (8 ounces) of water or fruit juice before swallowing. It is best if you take your doses just after a meal.
People with diabetes have to be mindful of their diet to maintain a healthy balance of insulin and blood sugar (glucose). Some research has suggested that fibers like psyllium can help people maintain a healthy glycemic balance.
